Buying a home is one of the biggest investments you will make in your lifetime. There are many decisions to be made, looking at homes, paperwork, appraisals, inspections, mortgage, and of course packing, etc. The fulfillment you will get from owning your own home will be worth all the blood, sweat and tears that go along with the buying process. Buying a home is a huge commitment, you're not just signing a lease to stay there for a year, like a rental, but to own and take care of for years to come.
The first thing you should do is apply for your mortgage, that will let you know how much you can qualify for, so in turn you will know what houses to look at. You need to decide what neighborhood and type of home you want. After you have that part done you can spend your free time looking at properties that are available for purchase. This is the fun part, be sure to look at several homes to insure that you find the perfect one for you and your family. After you have found your home, you will make an offer to purchase. When that is accepted, you can then apply for your mortgage and you will need to bring some documents such as pay stubs, and W2'.
Once your loan is approved, then a closing date will be set, and then you can start with the packing process. This can be a major chore; you never know how much stuff you own till you go to move. At the closing date you will need to go to the title company to sign the papers and give a down payment, this will need to be in certified funds. You will usually get the keys to your new home at the closing, and then you can move in. You will still have a couple things to do, like have the utilities turn on, and place your change of address with the post office to insure that you receive your mail. After moving in you can start decorating your new house and make it into a home.
